High School programs
The Tiffin Centre offers rewarding outdoor activities and learning opportunities for high school students. Join us for a half day or full day of programming, hike and explore the Tiffin site, or even stay in our group campground. It's the perfect setting for a group retreat. We will work directly with you to combine or modify programs to meet your needs.
SCIENCE
The Truth about Ponds
Spring & Fall, half-day program
Students will take an in-depth look at pond life by examining ponds at the Tiffin Centre. They will learn how oxygen concentrations, fish migration and sediment transportation play a role in the pond ecosystem. Factors that negatively affect pond ecosystems will also be discussed.
Investigating Ecosystems
Spring & Fall, half-day program
While examining both natural and managed ecosystems, students will learn the dynamics of differing biological communities. Issues related to environmental sustainability will be highlighted.
TEAM BUILDING
Team Dynamics & Low Ropes Challenge Course
All seasons, half or full day programs
Students will be challenged to work together to succeed at various group tasks that build in complexity as they make their way throught our Low Ropes Challenge Course. This program leads through a progressive range of fun, safe, co-operative games and initiatives that aim to promote teamwork, leadership, trust, communication and problem solving.
OUTDOOR RECREATION
Orienteering
All seasons, half or full day programs
Students will be challenged both physically and mentally as they learn valuable life skills such as map reading. They will use maps and trails to challenge their cognitive and physical abilities.
Wilderness Survival
All seasons, half or full day programs
Students will learn survival skills, including proper dress and shelter building, safety precautions and the uses of survival kits, distress signals and map-reading skills.
Winter Survival
Winter, half or full day programs
In this modified version of Wilderness Survival, students will enjoy the outdoors in winter on snowshoes or by kicksled. Winter medical conditions such as hypothermia, frost bite and dehydration will be highlighted, along with safety precautions and first aid. In the full-day program, fire building and a campfire lunch can be arranged.
