Special Projects
Staff participate in numerous special projects related to non-core program initiatives of mutual Authority, municipal and provincial interests. These projects provide an opportunity for additional funding relating to changing Conservation Authority roles, political priorities, and public expectations. Projects include:
-
-
South Simcoe Groundwater Study Implementation
-
City of Barrie Erosion and Sediment Control Pilot Project
-
Nutrient Management Pilot Project
-
Nottawasaga Valley Watershed Plan update
-
Low Water Response Program
-
Source Water Protection Planning
-
Assimilative Capacity Studies

Groundwater Management Plan - June 2010
The main purpose of the NVCA Groundwater Management Plan is:to provide an overall comprehensive understanding of the hydrogeology
of the NVCA watershed, Provide direction as to how best to protect the NVCA watershed, groundwater , identify constraints as well as opportunities for future development from a hydrogeological perspective and, serve as a basis for determining what future steps should be taken by the NVCA regarding groundwater management.

Integrated Water Resource Management Strategy - February 2009
This document provides general guidance on how to prepare a Integrated Water Resource Management Strategy (IWRMS), in consultation with stakeholders, in sub-watersheds with similar water resource management issues as Innisfil Creek (ie. concentrated water takings). This document is intended for water users, relevant public agencies and others interested in improving water management in the given sub-watershed.
The development of the Integrated Water Resource Management Strategy was funded in part through contributions by the Government of Canada and the Province of Ontario under the Canada-Ontario Water Supply Expansion Program, an initiative of the federal-provincial-territorial Agriculture Policy Framework designed to position Canada's agri-food sector as a world leader. The Agricultural Adaptation Council administers COWSEP on behalf of the Government of Canada and the Province of Ontario.

Niagara Escarpment Baseflow Study - January 2009
Knowing the abundance of cold water fisheries in its jurisdiction, the Nottawasaga Valley Conservation Authority (NVCA) wanted to study the relationship between groundwater contributions and geology. After all, cold water fisheries tend to thrive in areas with significant groundwater discharge.
The NVCA worked in partnership with the Niagara Escarpment Biosphere Reserve (NEBR) and the Niagara Escarpment Commission (NEC) to identify areas with significant groundwater contribution along the Pretty, Pine, Mad and Boyne rivers. This was done by monitoring stream base flow and water quality.
