Ecological Net Gains Policy Guidelines
NVCA has recently developed draft policy guidelines for achieving ecological net gains.
This policy document outlines NVCA's direction with regards to offsetting for the loss of natural heritage features through the development process.
The intention is to ensure that the approach to offsetting is standardized, transparent and consistent for all Planning Act applications that qualify to implement offsetting as part of the development.
The report promotes ecological ‘net gains’ within the watershed in limited situations where offsetting is determined to be an appropriate tool. This approach attempts to balance growth with the protection of the natural features to ensure that development remains sustainable for the long term.
