Tiffin Centre Bird Count makes Kids the Scientists
UTOPIA, Ontario (December 18, 2018) – Looking for a fun outdoor activity for the kids during this winter break? Come help count the birds making their winter home at Tiffin Centre for Conservation.
The Nottawasaga Valley Conservation Authority’s annual Christmas Bird Count for Kids takes place January 5, 2019, from 9 a.m. to 12 noon at the Tiffin Centre for Conservation, 8195 8th Line, Utopia.
The bird count is a fun, family-friendly bird-watching event that contributes to scientific bird count data.
The count begins with a mini-workshop on bird identification. Birding experts from Nature Barrie then guide families on a bird count hike through the Tiffin forest. The data collected will be submitted to Bird Studies Canada and included in the national Christmas Bird Count for Kids database.
All ages are welcome with adult supervision.
To register, visit www.nvca.on.ca and click on Events & Education. A $5 registration fee ($7.50 at the door) includes parking fees and hot chocolate. Children 3 and under are free.
Can’t make the bird count, but looking to get the kids outside over the winter break? NVCA is offering a winter nature camp at the Tiffin Centre from January 2 to 4, with daily and weekly rates available.
