Build Resilience into Your Farm

Hear how three local farmers are taking on the challenges of a changing climate, to better sequester carbon and keep their soil healthy. 

By sharing their experiences, failures and successes in changing farming practices through no till, crop cover, crop rotation and grazing, these speakers will show how it is possible to use fewer inputs, save money and increase yields on your farm.

Tickets: $25 includes a local lunch sponsored by 3Gen Organics.

Family Nature Day - Get back to the Sugar Shack

​Join us for fun, outdoor, family friendly environmental education programs at the beautiful Tiffin Centre for Conservation! Perfect for families that homeschool or those wanting to spend PA/PD Days outside! 

All ages – Explore the working sugar bush and learn about indigenous, pioneer and modern-day maple syrup making through stories and hands-on activities.

March Break Camp
Date: Monday, March 16, 2020 9:00 AM - Friday, March 20, 2020 4:00 PM
Location: Tiffin Centre for Conservation, 8195 8th Line, Utopia​​​

Led by NVCA’s environmental educators, kids aged 5-12 will enhance your child's knowledge, understanding and appreciation of the natural world and our amazing planet. ​This March Break, we will head outside and ​explore the wint​er wonders of the 300+ acre Tiffin Centre for Conservation.​ 

​Activities may include:
  • Nature walks and​ forest exploration
  • Animal tracking and bird watching
  • Make maple syrup
  • Shelter building
  • Winter games and crafts
  • Snowshoeing and kick sledding (if weather permits)​​

On colder days, we will have some time indoors doing wooden crafts and investigating nature artifacts to warm up between outdoor excursion

Kick off March Break at the Tiffin Centre for Conservation!

The Tiffin Centre for Conservation is inviting families to explore nature this March Break, on Monday, March 16 and Friday, March 20. Located just 15 minutes west of Barrie, there will be many activities set out for families to enjoy.

Tour Tiffin’s maple sugar bush and visit the Sugar Shack to see how maple syrup is made.

Then try snow-shoes and kick-sleds, make a craft, play a round of disc golf, and explore the Tiffin forest with a scavenger hunt.

If the weather warms up, we'll trade the snowshoes and kick-sleds for birding and orienteering programs!

Admission fee: $7.50 per person in advance or $10 per person at the door.

Children 3 and under attend free of charge.

Lights Off Adventure On
Date: Saturday, March 28, 2020 6:30 PM - 9:30 PM
Location: Tiffin Centre for Conservation, 8195 8th Line, Utopia ON L0M 1T0
 
Join us for Earth Hour at the Tiffin Centre for Conservation!

The night will begin at 6:30 pm where participants will join in activities such as campfires, book walk and nature games.

At 8:30, when Earth Hour begins, participants will be guided on a night hike to do an owl prowl and play a fun game called coyote catch. 

This is a fun way to get out into nature and show that you care about climate change in a way that is fun and positive!

Tickets: 
$7.50 for participants aged 4 and up or $10.00 at the door (cash only).

Online ticket sale ends on March 26 at 5:00 pm. 

Family Nature Day - Petun Tour
Date: Thursday, April 16, 2020 10:00 AM - 3:30 PM
Location: Tiffin Centre for Conservation

Join us for fun, outdoor, family friendly environmental education programs at the beautiful Tiffin Centre for Conservation! Perfect for families that homeschool or those wanting to spend PA/PD Days outside!

All ages – Visit one of the highest elevations in the Niagara Escarpment and a place where the Petun Indigenous people used to farm the land. Join a private tour of the fish hatchery and hike the Bruce Trail with us. This program takes place at Petun Conservation Area near Collingwood.

Family Nature Day - Giving Back and Restoring Nature

​Come out and help us to our part to restore nature! We will be joining the NVCA stewardship team to help with one of the many projects they do to help.
Family Nature Day - Pond Living
Date: Friday, June 5, 2020 10:00 AM - 3:00 PM

​Join us for fun, outdoor, family friendly environmental education programs at the beautiful Tiffin Centre for Conservation! Perfect for families that homeschool or those wanting to spend PA/PD Days outside!

Age 4-11 – Learn about the plants, bugs, fish and other animals, build a model sailboat, then try your hand at paddling a canoe

Age 12-19 – Investigate living and non-living things along a water course and explore the relationship between temperature and dissolved oxygen and the role they play in aquatic ecosystems.

Edible Wild Walk

Karen Stephenson (www.ediblewildfood.com) will identify plants and describe their edible and medicinal values.

Karen is a certified Master Naturalist who has been a forager and wild food educator for many years. Cost: $20. Pre-registration required, spaces are limited to ensure a high quality experience for all participants.

Program Cost: $20. Payment on site. Cash only.
