The Nottawasaga Valley Conservation Authority advises that a Flood Watch has been issued on Thursday March 27, 2025 at 3:00 p.m.
Weather Conditions
Up to 62mm of rain, including freezing rain, is forecast for the watershed over the next four days, beginning late Friday through Monday.
Issues
Water levels are currently elevated as a result of recent snowmelt, warmer temperatures and rainfall over the past several weeks. Ground conditions are frozen or saturated. A significant amount of rain is forecast on Friday overnight, throughout the weekend and into Monday afternoon.
Rivers and streams remain high with fast flowing water. Water could overflow banks and cause flooding in some low-lying areas. Widespread flooding is not anticipated at this time; however, seasonal flooding of low-lying and poorly drained areas is expected. Ice cover, where it exists, is expected to weaken and break up, creating a risk of ice jamming.
Actions
Municipalities, emergency services and individual landowners in flood-prone areas should be on alert and prepare for possible flooding by taking precautionary measures.
High flows, unsafe banks, melting ice or other factors could be dangerous. Hazardous conditions may exist around all waterbodies, as there is a high risk of life-threatening injury if a person falls into the extremely cold water. The public and especially children, as well as pets, are advised to stay away from all waterbodies.
The Nottawasaga Valley Conservation Authority continues to monitor river and stream conditions and will issue additional messages as conditions warrant. This Flood Watch will be in effect until, or updated before, 4 p.m., Wednesday, April 2, 2025.
