Volunteer opportunity: Real Rivers have Curves

Are you tired of sticking to the straight and narrow? So is Willow Creek! Join NCC and the Nottawasaga Valley Conservation Authority (NVCA) for a wet and wild day of installing wing deflectors made of “retired” Christmas trees along Willow Creek in the internationally significant Minesing Wetlands.

Once installed, these wing deflectors will give Willow Creek it’s curves back by returning the stream to it’s natural meander (S-shape) and acting as great habitat for fish and aquatic bugs. Physical activity includes walking approximately 3 km over uneven terrain (sometimes in the creek in waders), lifting, twisting, pounding, bending and walking in the creek with chest waders.

Volunteer dates:

August 27, 28, 29 from 9:00 am – 3:30 pm

Pre-Registration is required! Space is limited.

This event is only suitable for volunteers ages 14+.

Please Note: This is an in-water event. Volunteers must be very comfortable in the water. Since some of our waders may leak, plan on getting wet and bring a change of clothes and socks! This is a moderately physically demanding project involving hiking, lifting and hammering and walking on uneven surfaces in the water.
