Watershed Conditions Statement: Flood Outlook

Flood Outlook

Flood Potential: Low

Ice Jam Potential: Moderate

Issued to:  local municipalities and school boards, local conservation authorities, emergency response agencies, health unit, media, NVCA board and staff

Date:      March 04, 2025 (4:00 PM)

The Nottawasaga Valley Conservation Authority is issuing a Flood Outlook. The public, especially children, are advised to stay away from all area water bodies due to unstable ice cover, slippery banks, and fast-flowing watercourses creating dangerous conditions.

An incoming system is expected to bring 10-15mm of rain west of Owen Sound and Long Point, 5-10mm across the remainder of Southern Ontario on Tuesday, and an additional 10-25mm on Wednesday. Temperatures on Wednesday are forecast between +5 and +10°C before dropping below zero overnight.

Water levels in all rivers and streams are rising due to recent warm temperatures, rainfall, and snowmelt, with the potential for ice jams. While no major flooding is anticipated, localized flooding and ice jams remain possible.

The NVCA continues to monitor conditions and will issue updates as necessary. This statement remains in effect until 12:00 PM Friday, March 7, 2025.

A Flood Outlook message is an early notice of the potential for flooding based on weather forecasts calling for heavy rain, snow melt, high wind or conditions that could lead to high runoff, cause ice jams, lakeshore flooding or erosion.
