Schedule

This March Break camp will be so fun and engaging that you will wish we ran camp for adults!

Our plans for the week include a snowshoe hike to Porcupine Cove, wilderness survival activities, kicksledding, nature crafts, a maple syrup tour and a hot dog cook-out on the Friday only.

Plans are subject to change should snow conditions change.

While we will be using the Jose Education Building as home base, we plan to be outside most of the time, except for nutrition and  bathroom breaks.

Frequently Asked Questions

How old should children be when they attend Camp Tiffin?

We do accept children who are turning 5 during this calendar year. Camp Tiffin is designed for children between 5-12. For children ages 13-15, our Junior Leadership Program is available.

What is your day like?

At the end of summer 2018, as part of Take Me Outside Day (TMO), a Conservation Authority video was released which featured Camp Tiffin. This great 1 minute video gives a great synopsis of Camp Tiffin!

Here is our schedule on a typical day

9:00-9:30 – Morning circle and Counsellor lead activities

9:30-11:00 – Tiffin Education Program

11:00-11:00 – Lunch and Free time (balanced day nutrition breaks to replicate what children are now used to in school)

11:40 – 1:10 – Counsellor lead activities

1:10-1:50 – Lunch and Free time

1:50-3:20 – Tiffin Program

3:20-4:00 – Counsellor lead activities

Counsellor lead activities
These activities are generally more camp-based, ie: crafts, hikes, camp games, ‘Get to know you’ games, usually whatever is popular within the group. These are small blocks of time for camper groups to explore nature and participate in activities the group as a whole wishes to do.

Tiffin Program
These activities are developed and require a Tiffin Outdoor Educator to put together, teach, and oversee. Counsellors are still with their group to help facilitate, but the bulk of instruction is left to our education staff who work at our Centre teaching grades JK-12 during the school year.
Options include orienteering, shelters, art, GPS, scavenger hunt, Predator/Prey game, bug hunt, STEM activity, canoeing, pond dipping (no swimming, just looking for creatures that live in the pond). All of these activities happen once a week. Some favourite activities will replicate within Councillor Lead Activities time if the group requests it.

We hire mature high school, college and university students to be camp counsellors. They must complete a Criminal Reference Check with a vulnerable sector search and First Aid CPR level C. All staff carries First Aid kits.
Where is Camp Tiffin located?

Camp Tiffin is held at the Tiffin Centre for Conservation. We are 8 km West of Barrie (between Barrie and Angus). If you are driving West on Hwy # 90 from Barrie you would drive South along the 8th line.  Or, from South End Barrie you would drive West along Mapleview and continue West past Hwy # 27 as Mapleview turns into the 25th side road. We are on the 8th line.

What activities do you do at Camp Tiffin?
We used to do a weekly theme, but essentially, we have so many activities that are Camp Tiffin favourites, we do them every week. For example, we usually start building shelters on a Monday because whenever kids have free time, they tend to ask their counsellor if they can go and work on their shelter throughout the week. This is a great team activity that tends to build friendships through teamwork, and it is their wilderness home base.  Great for distancing as a cohort.

STEM activities are on Wednesday and led by a STEM instructor who visits the camp. Canoeing and pond dipping happen on Wednesday too. Thursdays is navigation (GPS or Orienteering) and Friday is wilderness adventure.

Generally, counsellors get a feel for how their campers are and run their own programs/games based on camper suggestions and interests.
Can my child be in camp with a friend or family member?

If you would like to request that your child be in a camper group with another child (friend or family) please email us at outdoored@nvca.on.ca no later than the week before the start of camp so that we can make the adjustment. After camper groups are made and shared on the Friday before the start of camp, we cannot guarantee an adjustment.

Refunds and Cancellation

Payments are subject to a 25% non-refundable registration fee, which will be retained on all cancellations made up to 2 weeks prior to the start of camp.
