We’re hiring camp counsellors!

The NVCA is currently seeking individuals looking for a rewarding, exciting and great summer employment experience to join us in the summer student role of Camp Counsellors.

Key responsibilities include but not limited to the direct supervision and leadership of individual day camper groups. Daily responsibilities include:

  • Camper sign in & out – greeting parents at the start and end of the day
  • Ensure well-being & safety of campers – monitoring their daily needs with reminders for hats, water bottles, sunscreen, insect repellent and so on.
  • Lead camper group through daily schedule as laid out by Tiffin education staff
  • Counsellor lead activities – provide a variety of theme-based activities to offset Tiffin programming blocks
  • Assist with set up/take down of ‘Tiffin Programming’ blocks when possible (i.e. before/after camp and during group wide activity blocks, lunches or movie time when camper supervision is covered)
  • Put away all program equipment where found and assist with general tidiness of facilities & craft room
  • Facilitate Camper’s Choice activity sessions – providing program ideas & leadership when required as well as the necessary ‘tools’ (gathering needed equipment and supplies)
  • Check all outside equipment not being used in extended care is brought in – sand box/garden tools, balls etc. and assist with end of day ‘chores’ including compost, dishwasher etc. and help to pre-set for next day if possible
  • May assist with visiting camps and other duties as assigned

You must be mature, able to work in a fast paced environment and be proficient in multi-tasking, while working effectively with minimal supervision. Excellent communication skills, and the ability to problem solve is required. An interest in outdoor pursuits, science, nature, environmental education, teaching or other related career considered an asset. Experience with children – camp, co-op placement, day care, babysitting, coaching, etc. is required. Standard First Aid with Level C CPR required. Lifeguarding experience with Bronze cross considered an asset.

This position will be for up to 8 weeks (not necessarily consecutively). Salary is $15.60 per hour for students (student minimum wage) and $16.55 per hour (general minimum wage) for a 35-hour work week.
